World's Most Innovative Economies in 2021
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced the Global Innovation Index 2021 and the World's most innovative economies in 2021.
The Global Innovation Index 2021 captures the innovation ecosystem performance of 132 economies and tracks the most recent global innovation trends.
Despite the problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic sectors that have embraced digitalization, technology and innovation have shown remarkable resilience.
World's Most Innovative Economies in 2021
The top ten most innovative economies have largely the same economies we have seen in previous years. The two most innovative economies come from Europe (Switzerland and Sweden) followed by the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea.
Switzerland has ranked 1st world's economy between 2011 and 2021, while Sweden has been in the top 3 in the same period.
Finland hits the sixth place, followed by the Netherlands, Singapore, Denmark and Germany.
South Korea recorded the biggest leap from the tenth position in 2020, to the fifth in 2021. This downgraded Germany from its almost 'traditional' ninth place.
France ranks 11th in 2021, the best score in several years.
Following the upward shift to the top 15 in 2019, China breaks into the 12th in 2021, followed closely by Japan, Hong Kong (China) and Israel at the 15th place.
Montenegro is the Western Balkans' leader
From the wider Balkan region Turkey enters the top 50 at 41st place.
The best-performing economy from the Western Balkans is Montenegro which entered the top 50 (50th place). Serbia follows at 54th place and North Macedonia comes into 59th position.
Bosnia and Herzegovina sits at 75th place and Albania at 84th.
